For Merchant of Venice unit
Poems that contain references to dreams that get distorted through desire
The Good Night and Good Morning of Federico Garcia Lorca
He knew he was asleep and was dreaming
Of a beautiful poem. It seemed to be singing
Itself in the night, and he woke
A poem about dreaming of a poem and then waking up to the silliness of dreaming how great your dreamed poem was. But then hearing the poem sung outside, half-dressing, stumbling down into and out of a hotel lobby, and outside finding the singer sweeping the sidewalk...and hugging him. Only to return to bed, struck by the wonder of poetry.
